Garmin Astro is specifically designed for hunters, but works very well for other
outdoor dog activities that require tracking. Track your dogs in heavy cover
without making a sound. Built tough enough to handle the rough terrain where
your dog hunts. This is the first high sensitivity GPS-enabled dog tracking
system for hunters and sportsmen. This unique system pinpoints your dog’s
position and shows you exactly where he is, even when you can’t see or hear him.
The Astro system includes a bright color-screen handheld GPS device and the
rugged, all-weather DC 30 collar. The collar has an integrated GPS transmitter
and is specially weighted so the antenna will always point to the sky for
optimum signal. To get started, just take Astro outdoors and turn on the
handheld and transmitter to acquire GPS satellite signals. Then attach the DC 30
to your dog. Now you’re ready to turn him loose — no other setup required.
The rugged Astro DC 30 collar / transmitter is a complete
stand alone unit. The DC 30 has a top mounted, low profile GPS antenna and a
side mounted "whip" antenna for the radio signal that sends the location
information to the Astro handheld unit.
The Garmin Astro system consists of two components, a
Handheld GPS unit (Astro 220) which looks like a two-way radio and a Dog GPS
Collar Unit (Astro-DC-30) with a whip style antenna that transmits your dog's
location via radio signal.
The Dog GPS computes its location from the GPS
satellites and detects whether your dog is moving, on
point, or treed. The Dog GPS sends that info to your
Handheld GPS every 5 seconds. The Handheld GPS plots the
exact location of your dog on a map, shows distance, and
whether your dog is moving, on point or treed. On your
Handheld GPS, the MAP SCREEN shows your location, your
dog's location, and the path that your dog has hunted.

What is GPS?
The Global Positioning System (GPS) is the only fully functional
Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). The GPS uses a constellation of
between 24 and 32 Medium Earth Orbit satellites that transmit precise microwave
signals, that enable GPS receivers to determine their current location, the
time, and their velocity including direction. |
